2027 is going to be a busy year for Minnesota from a festivals standpoint. We will, again, be home to the trifecta of festivals. AACTFest, the Region V festival and MACT*Fest will all be in Minnesota, as they were ten years earlier, in 2017.
In 2027 the national festival, AACTFest’27, will be held at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester in June. This festival presents 12 shows from around the country. Each show at this festival has advanced through state festivals and the regional festivals. This is generally the “cream of the crop” of shows, having been vetted through two levels of festivals to get to the national festival. This will be a great opportunity for Minnesotans to see some fantastic theatre close to home.
In 2027 it will be Minnesota’s turn to host the Region V festival. By AACT rules this festival must be completed by April 15. This is a rule that they changed last cycle. (Prior to then was no formal rule about when the regional festivals had to be done, but the “de facto” rule was by the end of April.) We are currently looking for a location for the Region V festival. Our hope is to have it one of the first two weekend in April, but the actual dates will be dependent on the availability of the host facility.
In order to give the theatres that are advancing to the regional festival time to make arrangements and do some fundraising between the state and regional festivals, the MACT board decided to try to move MACT*Fest to an earlier date range. We are still looking for a location for MACT*Fest ’27, but we are telling potential facilities that it should be sometime in February or early March. The board felt that this potential change to an earlier MACT*Fest was in the best interest of the shows advancing to the regional festival. Ultimately, the time-frame will likely depend on availability in the selected host facility. For example, one of the facilities we are looking at only has the week of February 17-20 open in our time-frame (February or Early March).
If you have any comments or concerns about the potential time change for MACT*Fest, please share them with the MACT board or send your comments to President@MACT.net or Webmaster@MACT.net.
