MACT

A very common question we get is “Why should I join MACT?” or ” What’s in it for me?”

MACT is a statewide, volunteer run organization which holds meetings, workshops, festivals and other events throughout the state of Minnesota. Its mission is:

• to promote standards of excellence in theatrical endeavors in Minnesota communities;
• to encourage, channel and facilitate the exchange of ideas among theatres to better foster their growth and improvement; and
• to encourage the theatre arts through educational devices such as workshops, festivals, contests, conferences and other means.

Memberships are our primary funding source. Your membership gives us the financial means to

• maintain our website (free audition and show listings for theatre members)
• publish our newsletter (free to all subscribers)
• produce our festivals, MACT*Fest and Fast*Fest
• put on workshops
• provide information and advice to individual theatres

Your membership provides

• For all members:
  • Discounts on MACT festivals and workshops
  • The knowledge that you are supporting the greater theatre community and art form
• For individuals
  • If you are a director, stage manager, choreographer, lighting designer, sound designer, set builder and/or painter or other production staff person, we will post your resume on our “positions wanted” page to help theatres find you. To get listed, just send your information to our webmaster.
• For Theatre members:
  • We visit your website or Facebook pages weekly to maintain our list of auditions and performances for our website and newsletter
  • We post the auditions and performances for the upcoming two weeks in our e-newsletter that goes out to about 500 subscribers.
  • If sent to us, we post
    • job openings (full or part-time, paid or volunteer) on our website and in our newsletter
    • In search of items (like props and set pieces)
    • For sale or rent or to give away items
  • The opportunity to present shows in our festivals
  • Looking for that special prop for a show? We can tell you what MACT member theatre has done that show in the last 10 years, or has it in their published season. (Ask our webmaster – WebmasterMACT@gmail.com)
• For Theatre and Other members:
  • Discounts on advertising in our newsletter and festival playbills
    • Discount percentages based on annual dues amount
    • check our membership form for more details

There are three types of membership available:

1. Individual
   • Open to any individual who wants to support Minnesota’s Theatre Community
   • Annual dues are
     • $25 for a regular membership or
     • $15 for Senior (65+), student or fixed income
2. Theatre
   • Open to any theatre
     • Operating in Minnesota or that regularly draws people form Minnesota.
     • Community theatres
       • Theatres operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
       • Theatres operating under some other public entity, such as
         • an arts council
         • a school’s community ed department
         • a city or county parks and rec department
     • Public school theatre programs
     • College and University theatre programs
     • Semi-professional theatres
     • Professional theatres (but cannot participate in festivals)
   • NOTE: Only community theatres can advance in the biennial AACTFest festival cycle
   • Community theatres will be given priority over other theatres for participating in a festival
   • Annual dues are based on the theatre’s annual budget
     • Budget below $25,000 – $50
     • Budget $25,000 to below $50,000 – $60
     • Budget $50,000 to below $100,000 – $80
     • Budget $100,000 or greater – $100
3. Other
   • Arts associations
   • Theatrical suppliers
   • any individual or company that wants to support MACT’s mission and services
   • Annual dues start at $50 or any amount higher than that
