As a subscriber, you are aware that MACT sends out emails on both a regular basis (our newsletter) and as needed (MACT and AACT news). You can control what information you want to receive information from us by controlling which of our three email lists you subscribe to and by controlling the frequency and content of our newsletter, Mini MACT*Facts. In last week’s article, we covered what the three MACT email lists are and how to control which lists you receive emails from. The purpose of this article if to tell you how to control the frequency and content of our newsletter.

When new subscribers use our on-line form to subscribe to our email service they can select the lists they want to receive emails from. They can also select the newsletter frequency and content.

For current subscribers, you can also control the newsletter frequency and content of the newsletters you receive from us. At the bottom of each email we send out, there is a section with three options as shown below:

If you click on “Unsubscribe” you will be unsubscribed from all three email lists. You will be asked to confirm that you really want to unsubscribe. We hope this is not what you want!

To change the frequency and content of the newsletters you receive from us, you want to choose the center option, “Manage your subscription”. Your “Newsletter Subscriber Profile Page” should come up with your information filled in. If you scroll down to near the bottom of the page, the “Mini MACT*Facts Subscription type” and “Mini MACT*Facts subscription Frequency” options should be there. Your newsletter will be sent based on the type and frequency options you select here. After making any changes, remember to click on the “Save” button to save your changes.

Every week (well, almost every week 😉 ), we visit each MACT member theatre’s website to make sure that our listing of their auditions and performances are up-to-date on our website. Most weeks we find some changes or additions. Many of those additions are for the next week or two.

There are 3 content type options and 5 subscription frequency options. This gives us 15 variations of our newsletter, based on the combinations of the options describe here.

Your first option is the subscription type. There are three content areas in each newsletter, News, Auditions and Events. This option controls whether the Auditions and Events sections are included in the newsletters you receive.

Every newsletter includes the “News” section. We try to create 2 to 4 new news entries each week. This section also includes the comics and ads. Each newsletter should contain all the news, comics and ads that have been published since the previous newsletter you received from us. Please note that if you receive the newsletter less often than once a week, this section may contain a lot of items.

The other two content types are Auditions and Events. You can control whether you want to received just Auditions, just Events or both. The Auditions section, as the name implies, includes any auditions for MACT member theatres. The Events section includes performances of member theatre produced shows. It also may include some other member produced events.

Your options under “Mini MACT*Facts Subscription type” are “Auditions and Events” (this is the default option), “Auditions only” or “Events Only”.

We also allow you to control how often you want to receive the newsletter and the time frame of the items included by choosing an option from the “Mini MACT*Facts Subscription Frequency” dropdown. There are five possibilities:

• Weekly (2) (2 weeks of listings)
  • Receive the newsletter weekly on Sunday night
  • Each newsletter will contain the next 2 weeks of Auditions and/or Events (as selected above)
  • This is the default option
• Weekly (1) (1 week of listings)
  • Receive the newsletter weekly on Sunday night
  • Each newsletter will contain the next week of Auditions and/or Events (as selected above)
• Every 2 Weeks (2) (2 weeks of listings) Note: This option name is not accurate.
  • Receive the newsletter twice a month on the first and third Sunday nights
  • Each newsletter will contain 3 weeks of Auditions and/or Events (as selected above)
• Every 2 weeks (1M) (1 month of listings) Note: The option name is not accurate.
  • Receive the newsletter twice a month on the first and third Sunday nights
  • Each newsletter will contain 1 month of Auditions and/or Events (as selected above)
• Monthly (first of month with listings for that month) Note: This option name is not accurate.
  • Receive the newsletter once a month on the first Sunday night of each month
  • Each newsletter will contain 1 month of Auditions and/or Events (as selected above)

The software we are using to send our newsletters does not have the capability to send a newsletter every other week. That’s why the “Every 2 weeks” options above are not actually every two weeks, but twice a month. And since a month usually contains more than 4 weeks, we need to include 3 weeks of items to make sure we don’t miss some Auditions and/or Events.

Similarly, the software does not allow for sending on a specific date (or dates) each month. Thus we needed to go to the first Sunday for the monthly option rather than the first day of the month.

Please remember that we update audition and event listings weekly. Any subscription frequency longer than a week may not include all of the auditions and/or events that are coming up.

We strive to provide you with the information you want and not overburden you with things that are not of interest to you. One of the ways we do this is by allowing you to select content and frequency of our newsletters, Mini MACT*Facts. We offer you the chance to control, to at least some extent, the number of emails you receive from us by choosing the frequency of our newsletters and the information contained therein.
