The mayor of Ely has declared it “The Year of Frozen” in the city after the local high school was selected to perform a theater production of Disney’s “Frozen.”
Last year, Ely Memorial High School won “The United States of Frozen: Love Is an Open Door” competition, which is a partnership between Educational Theatre Association, Music Theatre International, and Disney Theatrical Group.
The competition granted one high school from each state the free rights to perform “Frozen: A Broadway Musical.”
To honor the win, Ely Mayo Heidi Omerza issued a proclamation on Tuesday declaring it “The Year of Frozen.”
“It has been recognized by Educational Theatre Association, Disney Theatrical Group and Music Theatre International that Ely processes the necessary qualities of Community, Inclusivity and Collaboration required to successfully convey the essence of their visions,” Omerza’s proclamation reads.
The proclamation will remain in effect until the final performance at Ely Memorial High School. According to the competition’s website, the school will perform the musical from January 18 to January 21.
