Lyrics by: Tim Rice Music by: Andrew Lloyd Webber What’s the buzz? The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 50 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.

Directed by Kolie Shaw Devised by the cast and crew In the enchanted land of Fairytale Hollow, where classic tales come to life, the young inhabitants find themselves stuck in a loop of traditional endings. Cinderella is tired of waiting for her prince, Jack is bored of climbing beanstalks, and Little Red Riding Hood wants more than just a stroll through the woods. They gather at the Dream Tree, a magical spot where wishes are granted, and decide to create their own story! As the characters come together, they embark on a whimsical journey filled with laughter, friendship, and unexpected twists. They encounter quirky forest creatures, mischievous fairies, and even a grumpy old dragon who just wants to be left alone. Along the way, each character learns to embrace their individuality, finding strength in their unique qualities. With catchy songs and vibrant dances, the friends weave their dreams into a grand adventure, ultimately discovering that true happiness comes from being true to oneself. In the final showdown with the Fairy Tale Council, who want to keep the old stories intact, the friends must use their creativity and courage to show that every story deserves a chance to be rewritten. “Once Upon a Dream” is a heartwarming musical that celebrates imagination, collaboration, and the power of friendship, reminding young audiences that they can be the heroes of their own stories!

Sun, May 18, 2025 04:00 PM
On eight Sundays during the year, there’s a little bit of magic in Montgomery, Minnesota. Early in the afternoon, a two-story brick building with “1892” inscribed near the peak of its roof opens its doors, and the aroma of fresh buttered popcorn beckons from the second story. Music and laughter echo throughout the vintage concert hall as musicians rehearse and patrons begin to stroll in and claim seats. Promptly at 4 p.m., the fun begins. Led by proprietor John Grimm, a troupe of performers gathers on stage to join in a lively theme song during which members are introduced. For the next two hours, guests enjoy a diverse mix of music and entertainment ranging from popular standards to concert hall classics; from goofy comedy and colorful costumes to inspirational gospel and harmonic collaborations. At intermission, fresh piping-hot pizza from Pizzeria 201 is available for two bucks a slice, served with friendly smiles at “Shannon’s Snack Bar” (the kitchenette at the back of the hall). Performances for 2025 will be: March 30 April 27 May 18 June 29 August 31 September 28 October 26 November 30

Written by Miguel Fiol Directed by Joe Moses The Chrysalis (a play in English) is a family drama set in 1990s Puerto Rico during the tumultuous AIDS epidemic. American pharmaceutical companies on the island were reaping tax-free profits by making life-saving AIDS medications that most Boricuas (Puerto Rican natives) could not afford. The father (Eduardo) has to weigh the advantages of working for the Americans against the costs to his family after Raul’s friend faces exile, conversion therapy, and fatal illness and everyone in the family has to face difficult questions at the very heart of their identities. The youngest son, Raul, reveals plans to come out to his family on his 21st birthday until his late grandparents, both former activists for Puerto Rican independence, intervene. The story traces family conflicts to Spanish colonialism, the enslavement of Ghanaians, religious influences, and American political and economic (sugar cane) power. The family struggles to understand what it means to stand up for who they are as Puerto Ricans until Raul’s brother Francisco risks everything to protect the family (the chrysalis) from a home-grown menace. Miguel Fiol is a Puerto Rican playwright and activist who works on behalf of the Puerto Rican people on the island and in Minnesota. Miguel is the founder of The Fiol Family Foundation, which supports historical, cultural, and scientific activities to improve lives on the island and diaspora. Miguel makes several trips to Puerto Rico each year to deliver medical care and supplies in his native Ponce. The Chrysalis has been recognized as a promising new work by the Miranda Family Foundation National Playwriting Competition in New York City and by Teatro del Pueblo in St. Paul. Joe Moses helped usher The Chrysalis from Miguel’s initial novel translation into English in 2012, serving as editor, to the stage adaptation serving as dramaturg and development coordinator.

by Martyna Majok Directed by Vanessa Brooks-Agnes Brought to America as children, two teenagers forge a friendship that becomes a sanctuary in post-9/11 New Jersey. When G becomes naturalized, she and B hatch a plan to marry so that he may legally remain in the country and pursue the future he imagines. But as complications mount, their intertwined lives become tangled in the realities of love, longing, and belonging in an unwelcoming country.

The Minnesota Association of Community Theatres (MACT) is a statewide, volunteer run organization. We hold meetings, workshops, festivals and other events throughout the state of Minnesota.

MACT operates on a two year cycle.  In even numbered years we put on FAST*Fest, a non-adjudicated festival of 20-minute plays.  In odd numbered years we produce MACT*Fest, which is an adjudicated festival of 60-minute plays which is part of the AACTFest cycle.  Along with the performances at our festivals there are workshops and networking events.
