MACT Election Results

MACT held its annual meeting and elections on Saturday, August 10 at Donna Heaston’s house in Elk River. Here are the results of the election of Board Members and Officers:

Gordy Handeland and Bob Schwoch were reelected to additional 3 year terms on the Board.

Darren Beecher was reelected as President
Tom Nelson and Rachel Bohnsack were elected as Senior Vice-Presidents
Jon Skaalen was reelected as Secretary
Larry Pint was reelected as Treasurer and as the AACT State Contact for Minnesota.

Julianna Skluzacek was elected as an Emeritus Director in honor of her 30 years of service on the Board. including several years as President and as chairperson of several festivals and the many other things she has done for MACT.

In other business:

MACT is currently at 32 individual members, 48 theatre members and 5 other members, for a total of 85 members.

It was reported that MACT has received the final payout from Bill Muchow’s estate. That brings the total received from Bill to $47,883.76. This money has been put aside in a special endowment fund, where only a portion of the interest will be spent on things approved by the Board. Ideals for spending this money include reducing the cost for theatres to attend MACT*Fest, helping the theatres that move on to the regional and national festivals, and doing additional workshops. All of these areas were dear to Bill. If we can earn 5% per year on that fund, that would be almost $4,000 available in each biennium.

Fast*Fest is going well with 15 theatres scheduled to perform and 75 full registration packages sold to date. This should be a record festival. Depending on how things go at this festival with that many shows, we may want to either limit the number of shows or expand the festival performances into Friday night.

MACT*Fest is scheduled for March 5-9, 2025 at The Depot Theatre in Duluth. Darren will send out an e-mail looking for members for the committee for this festival.

Darren gave a “State of MACT” address, summarizing all that has been going on in MACT in the past year.
