Editor’s Note:

Absolute Theatre’s production of “Forever Plaid” is one of the two shows that will be representing Minnesota at the Region V AACTFest which will be held in Newton, Iowa, on April 3-5. Absolute Theatre is a new member of MACT and this was their first appearance at a MACT*Fest. We congratulate “Forever Plaid” and “break a leg” at the Region V AACTFest.

At Least one show from the Region V AACTFest will represent Region V at AACTFest 2025, which will be held at the Hoyt Sherman Place Theatre in Des Moines, June 25-28.

About Us

Absolute Theatre is a nonprofit theatre company located in Rochester, MN.

Our History

​Absolute Theatre formed in 2016 when a group of friends gathered in Rochester and, after a game of charades and a glass or two of wine, began to discuss how they might take their mutual love of theater to another level. The goal from the beginning was to nurture artists and to facilitate the connections and collaborations from which beautiful things might emerge. Or, in the words that became the organization’s mission statement, “to hone the art and craft of theatre and to present works, new and old, that entertain, challenge, and inspire our audiences and ourselves.” Nine years later…

We’ve produced many plays of varied genres, including large-scale musicals with live bands such as Bright Star, The Robber Bridegroom, Honky Tonk Angels, and Radio Gals. We have staged dramas, both large and small, such as Murder on the Orient Express, Three Viewings, Clue on Stage, Doll’s House 2, and An Iliad. We’ve brought live theater back to the historic Chateau Theatre in downtown Rochester after a 70 year hiatus. We’ve taught classes and held workshops for young and old. We’ve partnered with other nonprofit organizations such as the Elder Network and the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester to support their fundraising events, and we have presented over a dozen original and interactive murder mysteries to various groups in the community.

Absolute Theatre is honored to be part of MACT and grateful to have the opportunity to share our work at the upcoming Region V AACT-Fest in Newton, Iowa. We welcome anyone who shares our love of theater to join us in this adventure!
