MACT is looking for a facility and host theatre for MACT*Fest 2025. Show off your community and theatre facility to fellow thespians from all around Minnesota (and beyond) by hosting MACT*Fest. We would need the facility from Wednesday through Saturday night or Sunday morning. There should be seating for at least 250 and space for at least 3 10 foot by 10 foot set storage areas on or adjacent to the stage. We also need room in or near the facility for at least 2 consecutive workshops on Saturday (and maybe Friday) morning and a space for our silent auction. We would like nearby hotels that can accommodate at least 150 people and locations for social events and our Sunday morning awards brunch.
At MACT’s annual meeting on Saturday, we welcomed Tom Nelson to our board of Directors. Tom has been a member of FungusAmongus Players for many years. We also said a sad good-bye to Amy Hunter, who has been very active on our Board for several years. Our new officers for the coming year are Darren Beecher, President; Donna Heaston and Bob Schwoch, Senior Vice-Presidents; Larry Pint, Treasurer; and Jon Skaalen, Secretary. We thank these members for their service.
MACT is always looking for additional members for our Board. We meet every other month, sometimes in person, sometimes virtually and sometimes as a hybrid meeting. The Board makes the decisions regarding what events MACT will put on and organizes those activities. We are a working Board, not just an advisory Board. All our events and other activities are run by the Board with help from other volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about being a Board member, contact any Board member (listed on our website) of our President (Darren Beecher) at AdmAsstMACT@gmail.com.
A few months ago, MACT received a grant from MRAC to put on a series of training sessions and workshops in the 7 county metro area. The training will be for audio describers and live captioners. The audio describer training will consist of at least 12 hours of training, spread over multiple days. The captioner training will likely be a single session. The workshops will be offered with multiple choices in a morning session and additional choices in an afternoon session. The workshops will be, primarily, on topics related to accessibility and inclusion. We are looking for locations to host these workshops and training sessions. We are also looking for suggestions for workshop topics and presenters. Please contact Larry Pint or Jon Skaalen with suggestions or for more information.
We are now entering the holiday slowdown. Not many events this week. But auditions are really picking up, which will lead to many new shows over the next few months.
We would like to feature stories about MACT member theaters in this newsletter. If you have a story about your theatre – it’s history, a special project or milestone, anything of general interest – please send it to NewsletterMACT@gmail.com.
Please pass this newsletter along to anyone that you think might be interested. If you did not receive this newsletter directly, you can subscribe to this free weekly newsletter on the newsletters page of our website.
Please keep Tickets to the City in mind when you are looking for an on-line ticketing service. They have been MACT’s on-line ticketing service for many years. The system works great and is easy to use. Support is superior! And every ticket you sell through them provides your theatre with MORE than the value of the ticket sold and helps support MACT.
LPint Consulting designs and maintains several websites, including the MACT website. Please keep them in mind when you are looking for website design and/or maintenance for your theatre or other small business. They have been responsible for MACT’s website for many years. Support is great! Their people have worked in every aspect of community theatre, so they know what you do and need. They also offer a 20% discount on design and maintenance services to MACT member theatres. That could save your theatre enough to cover your annual MACT dues.
