The Barn Theatre is seeking a full-time Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our nonprofit community theatre. This leadership role manages productions, marketing, volunteers, finances, and administrative functions while serving as the primary public representative of the theatre.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Administration
- Manage day-to-day theatre operations and office functions
- Supervise the Production Coordinator, including scheduling, task assignment, and timekeeping
- Maintain organizational records, policies, contracts, and stakeholder databases
- Oversee facility operations, rentals, cleaning, maintenance, and equipment
Productions
- Oversee all theatre productions in collaboration with the Production Coordinator
- Support planning from play selection through strike
- Serve as primary point of contact for casts and crews and attend key rehearsals
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Develop and implement marketing plans with the Marketing Committee
- Manage advertising, media relations, website, social media, newsletters, and playbills
- Coordinate promotional materials, audition notices, and community outreach
Volunteers
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers
- Ensure staffing for ushers, concessions, box office, and house management
- Maintain volunteer participation records for reporting and grant purposes
Financial Oversight
- Assist with budgeting and financial planning
- Oversee invoices, deposits, reconciliations, and production budgets
- Work with the Treasurer and Finance Committee
- Prepare materials for the annual audit
Board & Committees
- Prepare monthly reports for the Board of Directors
- Attend board and committee meetings (non-voting)
- Participate in standing committees as assigned
Grant Writing & Performance Compensation
- Grant writing is part of the Operations Manager role
- Annual base expectation of $75,000 in grant revenue
- Compensation includes:
- 7% of each grant award secured
- Additional 3% of total fiscal-year grant revenue exceeding the base expectation
- Grant expectations reviewed biennially by the HR Committee
Qualifications
- 2+ years of management experience (nonprofit preferred)
- Associate degree in arts, business, or related field (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Proficiency with standard office and administrative software
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
- Some evenings and weekends required to support productions and events
