In the last decade of the twentieth century, a beautiful young woman in nineteenth-century clothing is found floating on an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic. When rescued, she says only one word: Titanic. The woman, Winifred, is taken to an isolated spot on the coast of Maine where an expert on the sinking of the liner, a mysterious man named John, has arranged to interrogate her for six days. His goal: to crack her story, get her to confess she’s a fake, and reveal her true identity; his one clue: her enigmatic references to an unknown place called “Scotland Road.” In a stark, white room furnished only with a ship’s deck chair, John, assisted by a skeptical doctor named Halbrech, plays a cat-and-mouse game with Winifred, probing and searching for ways to break her down. But Winifred is a formidable opponent, and as John is drawn closer to her, he becomes desperate. As time runs out, Halbrech tracks down the last, living survivor of the disaster, a reclusive old woman named Frances Kittle who has lived in seclusion for seventy-five years. Miss Kittle is brought to meet Winifred to test her, but the tables turn when Winifred recalls an earlier confrontation with Miss Kittle, one that took place on board the fated liner the night is sank, three quarters of a century before. A rediscovered classic by Sir James M. Barrie (“Peter Pan”). Barry’s 1920 play, Mary Rose, is a mysterious love story and a ghost story. Mary Rose is a girl who vanishes twice. As a child, she was taken by her father to a remote Scottish island. While she’s briefly out of her father’s sight, Mary Rose vanishes. The entire island is searched exhaustively. Twenty-one days later, Mary Rose reappears as mysteriously as she disappeared…but she shows no effects of having been gone for three weeks, and she has no knowledge of any gap or missing time.

Welcome to Doctor Shelby’s mansion, where there’s some very strange science going on, and all the town is talking about the secrets behind its doors. The doctor is a brilliant chemist who’s also a little scatter-brained. All in one day, she manages to turn her assistant into a cat-chasing Wolf-boy, two neighborhood kids into a two-headed monster, and a local bank guard into an inept superhero. As if that isn’t bad enough, she also manages to cause a huge explosion and disappear. Now, if Doc doesn’t show up soon, the Mayor and the Banker have plans in motion to build a massive amusement park on her land and turn her home into the star attraction… a haunted house. What will happen to the Wolf-boy, the two-headed monster, and the superhero if their hideout is discovered? And how will they find an antidote unless they can find Doc? With a mansion full of costumed guests, reporters, photographers, the Mayor, the Banker, and more, there’s no end to the trouble these four can get themselves into! On eight Sundays during the year, there’s a little bit of magic in Montgomery, Minnesota. Early in the afternoon, a two-story brick building with “1892” inscribed near the peak of its roof opens its doors, and the aroma of fresh buttered popcorn beckons from the second story. Music and laughter echo throughout the vintage concert hall as musicians rehearse and patrons begin to stroll in and claim seats. Promptly at 4 p.m., the fun begins. Led by proprietor John Grimm, a troupe of performers gathers on stage to join in a lively theme song during which members are introduced. For the next two hours, guests enjoy a diverse mix of music and entertainment ranging from popular standards to concert hall classics; from goofy comedy and colorful costumes to inspirational gospel and harmonic collaborations. At intermission, fresh piping-hot pizza from Pizzeria 201 is available for two bucks a slice, served with friendly smiles at “Shannon’s Snack Bar” (the kitchenette at the back of the hall). “The War of the Worlds” by H. G. Wells is a science fiction novel written in the late 19th century, during a time when literature began to explore themes of alien life and the potential consequences of space exploration. The narrative focuses on the harrowing invasion of Earth by Martians, highlighting the struggles of human civilization when faced with technologically superior beings. The story is primarily told through the experiences of an unnamed protagonist who witnesses the unfolding chaos. At the start of the book, the stage is set for an extraordinary and unsettling invasion. It opens with a reflective take on humanity’s ignorance of the vastness of space and the potential dangers that lie beyond it. Soon, the protagonist observes a falling star that turns out to be a mysterious cylinder from Mars, which crashes on Horsell Common. Alongside astronomers who first notice disturbing phenomena on Mars, the protagonist soon becomes entwined in the ensuing panic once it becomes apparent that extraterrestrial beings are making a terrifying arrival. As the narrative explores the fears and reactions of those witnessing the Martian emergence, the tone is charged with suspense, foreshadowing the catastrophic events that are about to unfold.

Can you guess the who, where and how. Based on the popular board game, Clue: The Musical is an interactive whodunit where the audience helps solve a murder mystery. The musical follows six guests invited to a dinner party by an anonymous host, each given an alias like Mrs. Peacock or Colonel Mustard. They soon discover they’ve all been blackmailed by their host, and are each gifted weapons and a choice: pay double or kill the butler. The evening descends into mayhem, with everyone a suspect and with 216 possible endings.

Necronomicon for best costume! Originally from Flandreau, SD, Mike has taught English in Minnesota, Iowa, Las Vegas, and Alaska. He has seven published books of pop-culture irreverence. He has competed at the National Poetry Slam three times and was recently seen in the Guild production of Shakespeare in Love. The best horror movie he’s seen recently is Weapons. He and his wife moved to Northfield in February and plan on sticking around for a while.
