The dragon is back in town! Well… not really. That’s the story a ragtag band of innkeepers makes up, desperate to draw questing heroes to the struggling Dancing Dragon Inn. Soon the inn is full of unexpected guests, from an army of princesses out to prove their bravery, to a group of overwhelmed heroes trying to hold onto their fame. But what happens if they all discover the innkeepers’ dragon story is made up? Could there be more than one way to save the day? An epic folk-rock score brings magic to this funny, heartfelt fantasy musical.
A celebration of Pirate Lore, the performance includes sea chanteys and three original plays:

Grand Rapids Players returns for its 20th year of summer theatre camp with Disney’s “Descendants”. The story follows the teenage children of infamous Disney villains, who are imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost, a desolate island where they are forced to live out their parents’ evil legacies. Do you remember Beauty and the Beast? Well, Belle and the Beast had a son, Ben! And, when he becomes King of
Auradon, he offers them a chance at redemption by allowing these outcast villians to attend Auradon Prep, a prestigious school for the children of heroes, forcing them to grapple with their wicked heritage and decide whether to embrace goodness or follow in their parents’ footsteps. It’s a battle between good and evil as they navigate a new world and the complex relationships they form with the children of heroes. Come and build theatre skills, friendships and memories in this 3-week session which concludes
with 2 public, live performances on the Reif stage. Everyone will have a speaking role. There will also be opportunities for those who enjoy working tech, back stage, gathering props, organizing wardrobes and building/painting set pieces. This production is made possible with special permission from Music Theatre International, New York, New York.

Based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations, Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect Broadway Junior musical!
The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

A dynamic youth program to introduce our youngest community members to the world of theatre! Community Education and Appleseed Community Theatre have teamed up once again to bring this unique experience to kids ranging in age from enetering first grade through entering ninth grade.
This is a three week immersion program teaching the basics of theatre, common terminology and processes. Students will learn about the auditioning process and then get to audition for thier parts in the show. The Minnesota Association of Community Theatres (MACT) is a statewide, volunteer run organization. We hold meetings, workshops, festivals and other events throughout the state of Minnesota.
MACT operates on a two year cycle. In even numbered years we put on FAST*Fest, a non-adjudicated festival of 20-minute plays. In odd numbered years we produce MACT*Fest, which is an adjudicated festival of 60-minute plays which is part of the AACTFest cycle. Along with the performances at our festivals there are workshops and networking events.
